i love narratives that are two fundamentally different experiences on the first and second read. stories you have to experience at least twice bc crucial information is withheld from you the first time
it’s like the converse of dramatic irony. the audience/reader’s understanding of events is restricted by the author - you only know as much as the protagonist knows, maybe even less - until a revelation comes near the end that casts everything that happened in a different light. this is why unreliable narrators are so intriguing and mystery/thriller/horror stories are super gripping! v. underrated imo. you have to keep readers on their feet - sometimes you aren’t omniscient as a third party observer
